I am planning a "big fancy dinner".

Basically, my boyfriend is taking an extremely huge exam tomorrow (CCIE Lab, if anyone is familiar with networking certifications) that costs more than $1,000 to take and requires flying to North Carolina and spending 10 hours at a testing site. If he passes (something like an 80% failure rate for this particular test) it will advance his career extremely well. He has been studying, very hard, for over a year. Basically, big freakin' deal goes on now.

So when he gets back, time for a big fancy dinner. Either to celebrate (::keeps fingers crossed::) or to show him that I still love him and I wish him better luck when he takes it again. So I need help on the menu. I want fancy stuff, not everyday foods, but I need it to be reasonably affordable. I can't spend $500 on ingredients for a meal for 2 people. The only meats that I can use are seafood and chicken. I was thinking maybe a soup or an appetizer or both, and a main course, and dessert. I'm pretty in the dark as to what to make, though. So....any thoughts?

Thanks! :-)

Hi, new member. I have been a stay-at-home mom and wife since a month before my son was born on Dec 4 2001. I am grateful to be able to do that. I am really close with my son and with my hubby been in the military it is good for my family to have me there. I do get alone time, but I like being a mom and I wife. It is a balancing act for sure but it gets easier every day.

What do you consider your 'domestic super ability' to be? In other words, what do you think you do best, and how do you accomplish it...and what's your secret?

After emailing my mom today I didn't think my mom will come to my request so soon. My food supply been very low on the healthy side. Only food that been healthy for me during the pregnancy been a few fruit. I'm wanting to do my best staying away from the Ramen Noodles. Because I read at http://www.babycenter.com top fast foods to avoid.

My mother came to my rescue in healthy food I've been actually craving. Can be a surprising thing that I'm craving good food. Good food she brought to me been more fruit, broccoli, cauliflower, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, light ranch dressing for dip. Some other healthy things like cheese sticks and an avacado.

Moms are amazing!

Will x- post in other communities I'm in. Quite happy for my mom right now :)

Been awhile because not so much really happened when I joined. My LJ I used here was Jenniki. I'm using Jenepicam more. Those of you who may not know me I'm Jennifer, 24. My husband is Epi, 25. I'm a housewife while Epi drives the city bus. That is his set career. We live in Dallas, TX. I have tried looking for a job and 2006 was kind of slow up until December. There I felt like of doing a baby dance from possibly being pregnant with 2nd baby. Our first baby is in heaven. Epi and I found out I was pregnant when he came home from work January 14th. Even Epi's grandfather took us to the hospital in having the doctor confirmed I was pregnant. Monday I called for my Preregistration appointment that will be Tuesday, February 6, 2007 @ 9:30 AM.

Hello All!

My husband ran across Drug Digest's Check Interactions site tonight, and i felt it was too good of a resource to not share. Not only does it include traditional pharmaceuticals, it also includes information on more natural supplements and such.

Of course, don't forget what you already know and take what you read with a grain of salt...it's not going to be a *complete* guide. It does do a nice job of providing basic information on possible interactions and it also gives you info on how well documented the interactions are. It also lists possible food & alcohol interactions.

Subject:Day Care...

Well we're approaching the final swing of my pregnancy (I'm 31 weeks - the count down begins) and in the process of scoping out day care. We only need part time infant care (I'm off Saturday and Sunday, my husband is off Monday through Wednesday and I plan to only work half days on Thursday and Friday when I go back). Lucky us right? WRONG! It seems to be hard to find part time day care that doesn't charge you almost as much as full time.

Anyway, I found a couple at home day care facilities that can accomodate our weird schedules and not charge an arm and a leg. Since I'm new to all this mothering stuff I thought I'd seek help from you more experienced mommies... what questions should I ask when I interview them and what do I need to look for or keep my eyes peeled for when I look around thier homes? Even though it will only be a few hours a week I want to be sure my little girl is getting the best care she can in a safe and healthy environment. Any and all advice is appreciated!!! Thanks!

This tip is kind of a throw-back to when people were covering their sofas with plastic back in the 50s or 60s...lol

But, I hate dusting these things and they always have food or whatever stuck to them it seems (esp. with kids), and it works well for me so I thought I'd share...

I take clear, plastic sandwich bags and either drop-in or stretch-in the TV, DVD,and VCR remotes. I trim the bags and pull the plastic neatly and tightly around the remote and tape to the back with clear postage tape. :o) Oh, and the plastic also keeps the sliding door on over the batteries (and in some cases the batteries in the remote too) when it gets thrown around. :o)

I know some may find this tip weird, but who includes remotes in their decor anyway? ;o)
